Inside is the first collaborative effort by Schumacher and Scherrer, who started Studio Five Beekman two years ago. Scherrer has made a video of slow changes between abstract shapes, a moving painting. Schumacher's music is a recorded piano in endless decay...
Born in Switzerland, Ursula Scherrer moved to New York City in 1988. She danced with several choreographers, as well as choreographing her own work. She started to photograph in 1993 and has shown her work in the U.S., Switzerland and Mexico. She won the prize in the International Photography Contest & Exhibition in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She began working with video last year.
Michael Schumacher is a composer of electronic sound installations using 2-16 speakers, computer-controlled random structures, never ending, never repeating; of acoustic music realizing advanced formal schemes; of taped and live music (also improvised) for prepared electric guitar, synthesizer, etc.; he has also composed two piano sonatas, numerous shorter works for solo piano, chamber music, songs, and orchestral music. Studies at Indiana University (Bernhard Heiden, John Eaton) and Juilliard (Vincent Persichetti), and with La Monte Young. Born 1961, in Washington, DC, a resident of New York City since 1983.
