sound and intermedia gallery
Studio Five Beekman is a unique space for sound and intermedia installations founded by Michael J. Schumacher and Ursula Scherrer.

In an office building in lower Manhattan, just around the corner from City Hall, is a small room where you can go to listen to, for hours at a time, and in an environment free of distractions, contemporary sound art by some of the leading composers working today. Known as Studio Five Beekman, this gallery has been in operation since 1996, and has presented 41 shows by 33 different artists, including multi-media works incorporating video tape and other visual media. Though a little out of the way (by New York's standards) a small group of dedicated listeners, as well as a growing word-of-mouth audience, are proof that it satisfies an important need in the art world of the city.
