Once again, Studio Five Beekman is proud to present Matt Rogalsky, a talented composer of sound installations. Last year, Rogalsky impressed with his piece "Silk Purse", which featured video. This year he will utilize a homemade seismograph to read the vibrations of people in the exhibition space, which will then determine the output of the computer. In other words when someone walks into the empty room - silence; then, as he or she moves about, sounds will gradually emerge from the 16 speakers (we've added 2) placed around the room. It's about time and space. Matt Rogalsky has studied with Ron Kuivila and Alvin Lucier and is currently teaching at Wesleyan University. He has presented his work at Experimental Intermedia (NYC), Apollohuis (Eindhoven), Fletch Bizzel (Dortmund) and Logos (Gent), and has had residencies at Mills College Center for Contemporary Music in Oakland, and Western Front in Vancouver.
