The sound installation uses materials recorded in Stanley Bay, Hong Kong in 1978; Hungary in 1985; and on various trains - to and from Hartford Connecticut, and from Stockholm to Copenhagen. The piece was constructed in the ProTools environment using a Macintosh computer. It's not microtonal. In addition, there will be computer controlled images from the series called SP (slide projects), which will be video projected. These images, converted from photographic slides, are dissolved with slowly changing superimposition to create a texture of constantly shifting tonal and spatial relationships. For the first time, the three projects which currently exist, SP5, SP6, and SP12, will all be shown. The computer aspects were prepared with technical assistance from Tennessee Rice Dixon. The photographs were made in the Alps, the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, the Arizona Desert, China, Brazil, the cemetery of the Jewish Synagogue and on the streets of Prague, New York, etc. Phill Niblock is an intermedia artist using music, film, photography, video and computers. Since the mid-60's he has been making music and intermedia performances and exhibitions. He is Director of Experimental Intermedia in New York and in Gent, Belgium. He has been director of EI NY since 1985; an artist/member since 1968. He is the curator and producer of Music and Intermedia presentations at EI since 1973 (about 1000 performances).
