Saturday, November 15 8 pm $ 10 Two New Electro-Acoustic Works by Cecilia Castro and Sergei Tcherepnin w/ performances by Kenny Wang + Gillian Rivers
Cecilia Castro's new work for piano and electronics is composed specifically for the occasion: making use of the twelve separate channels in Diapason Gallery's "lounge" space, Castro will use found sounds and other electronics to create a space within which Tcherepnin will play both written and improvised material on the piano. Born in Cordoba,
Argentina in 1980, Castro graduated from the National University of Quilmes
with a degree in Composition and Electro-acoustic Media, and has continued
her studies in contemporary composition with Mariano Etkin. In May, 2008
Castro traveled to Atlantic Center for the Arts as an Associate Artist
where she worked with George Lewis. She has created a number of different
electronic, electro-acoustic and mixed-media pieces, most recently completing
a score for the feature film La Mujer sin Cabeza, by Lucrecia Martel.
In 2003, her electronic piece Flashback received a mention at the Electronic
Music Competition held at the San Martin Theater, and in 2006 she obtained
the First Prize for her sound and image installation Solo soy una Cascada
at the Art and New Technology Competition. Foundation Telephonic. Cecilia
lives and works in Buenos Aires.
Incorporating sounds from the highway, the Serge Modular Synthesizer, and "Slow Down" from the Pacific Ocean, Rainbow Spirals is created specifically for the "gallery" space at Diapason, making use of the focused listening environment and eight-channel sound system. Particular attention is given to the mixture of acoustic and electronic sounds, as a violin and viola appear and disappear throughout the work. Sergei Tcherepnin
(b. 1981) is a Brooklyn-based composer and performer. His work has been
performed by the Da Capo Chamber Players, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble,
the American Symphony Orchestra, and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra,

Olympic Stadium (Tokyo), and at festivals such as the Look and Listen
Festival in St. Petersburg, the Moscow Autumn Festival, and the Emerging
String Quartet Festival in Deer Valley. As an improviser he has performed
at venues such as Diapason Gallery, Meridian Gallery, The Stone, CAMI
Hall, and Secret Project Robot. Sergei recently held a residency at Atlantic
Center for the Arts where he worked with Master Artist George Lewis, focusing
on the theory and practice of improvisation. He performs regularly as
a member of the analog synthesizer collective, Analogos. In addition to
