May 26 8:30 pm Flow Sound Collective The Flow Sound Collective is an event founded on the pursuit of exploring the electronically produced manifestations of sound in compositional pieces. We strive to provide a context for artists to present their work in a relaxed atmosphere. We are mostly interested in the mapping of the electronic terrain and the farming of it's sensibilities. Our predecessors, from Karlhienz Stockhausen to Pan Sonic, remain inspirational and operational, but they are only the gate before the forest. So much more is possible within these algorithmic walls. The tools of our de/construction remain hidden inside microchips and processors, but the world of information is at our fingertips, ready to be transformed into soundscapes that defy traditional modes of creation. At times soothing, and then again, at times grating, we present audiences with possibilities; possibilities for understanding the auditory experience in a post industrialized world and hope for the colonization or re-ordering of these simple noises that have leaked into and remain intrigal to our modern day lives. Artists include o.blaat, Bubblyfish (with Adam Kendall), Kenta Nagai, and Sawako with Chika. Chika
Iijima is a live computer
visuals artist working within New York's expanded cinema community and
VJ scene. Her videos implement geometric minimalist patterns and original
graphics in unique, repetitive combinations. Chika works exclusively with
Module8 from Gragecube in Switzerland. Kenta Nagai is a sound and visual artist based in New York City. He works with acoustic and electronic sound, visual media and live performance. In addition to performance on fretless electric guitar and other instruments, Nagai collaborates frequently with dance, theater and film arts. His work has been presented throughout the US and abroad, at venues including The Kitchen, Dance Theater Workshop, St. Mark's Church, Judson Church, The Japan Society, Anthology Film Archive, Harvestworks, Diapason, The Knitting Factory, Roulette, Tonic, PS122, Location One, Lincoln Center Out of Doors and the Smithsonian Institute. Haeyoung
Kim relocated to the
US from Korea in 1992. With a background in classical piano, she has been
focusing on experimental electronic music. Currently, under the name Bubblyfish,
she creates "lo-fi", 8 bit sound works and experimental compositions.
