Flow Sound Collective

The Flow Sound Collective is an event founded on the pursuit of exploring the electronically produced manifestations of sound in compositional pieces. We strive to provide a context for artists to present their work in a relaxed atmosphere. We are mostly interested in the mapping of the electronic terrain and the farming of it's sensibilities. Our predecessors, from Karlhienz Stockhausen to Pan Sonic, remain inspirational and operational, but they are only the gate before the forest. So much more is possible within these algorithmic walls. The tools of our de/construction remain hidden inside microchips and processors, but the world of information is at our fingertips, ready to be transformed into soundscapes that defy traditional modes of creation. At times soothing, and then again, at times grating, we present audiences with possibilities; possibilities for understanding the auditory experience in a post industrialized world and hope for the colonization or re-ordering of these simple noises that have leaked into and remain intrigal to our modern day lives.

Artists include o.blaat, Bubblyfish (with Adam Kendall), Kenta Nagai, and Sawako with Chika.

Sawako is a Tokyo/NYC-based sound sculptor who understands the value of dynamics and the power of silence. After beginning in video art, Sawako shifted her focus from the video camera to sound. Once through the processor named Sawako, sounds in everyday life - field recordings, instruments, voice and electronic sounds - float in space vividly with a digital yet organic texture. Her unique sonic world has been called "post romantic sound" by Boston's Weekly Dig. Sawako has collaborated with a wide range of musicians such as Andrew Deutsch, Asuna, Yuichiro Fujimoto, HYPO, Taku Sugimoto, Toshimaru Nakamura and Taylor Deupree. She did live performances in Tonic(NYC), offsite(Tokyo), Resonance FM(London) and Batofar(Paris). She appears on more than 20 CDs. In 2004, her 1st album "yours gray" was out from and/OAR, Oregon based field recording label, and in 2005 her 2nd album "hum" is out from NYC based electronic label, 12k.
