dAtA cOntrOl is the unattended reactive version of a live audiovisual performance which is part of a new serie titled dAtA. in dAtA cOntrOl the letters written by the ill-famed fugitive Bernardo Provenzano in a mafioso code addressed to his "picciotti"(fellas) in order to manage the clan businesses, digitalized by optical scansion become the control datas which will modify the audio-visual parameters during the performance.
The installation consists in an empty and dark room, where a screen made of a special surface modified by sciajno (see pictures) on which images and sounds are projected.
The sound is derived
trhough specific digital processings from Provenzano's letters while the
images are a real time combination, superimposition and processing controlled
by parameters mapped to the sound carachteristics (dynamics, frequncies
etc..).
Occasionally 2 microphones are placed in the room so that the audience
can also interfere with the images.
The special projection surface (two transparent layers of modified poliphrene)offers 3 points of view:
1. front: frontal
but discarded view of reality...
2. rear: the back-view of reality looks smoother and reversed...
3. reflection: the trasparency of the screen allows the images to draw
on the wall behind the screen the foggy and non-focused contours of reality
which is what normally media return to us.
The title dAtA comes out from the data and databases treatment techniqueswhich I transform in social and political metaphor. dAtA is a 'box' containing a series of audiovisual performances.This new series is an evolution of my research in the field of sound and image elaboration and within my personal synchronization computerized system: theopportunity of modifying the flow of images through the acustic parameters of sound produced during the performance itself.
