Tomas
Bächli and Gertrud Schneider will perform Tom Johnson's Symmetries
for two pianos as an ongoing installation interspersed with concerts of
piano music by Debussy, Satie, Kurtág and Zimmerlin
Claude
Debussy: Six épigraphes antiques
Tom Johnson: Symmetries (excerpts)
György Kurtág: Jatekok (Plays), Volume VIII (excerpts)
Erik Satie: Trois morceaux en forme de poire
Alfred Zimmerlin: Klavierstück VIII
The
Swiss pianists Gertrud Schneider and Tomas Bächli have
been playing together for twenty years. A unique piano duo, they play
piano four hands, on two pianos in traditional tuning, and on two pianos
in quarter tone tuning for which they have developed a large repertory.
Among the pieces they've premiered are works by James Tenney, György
Kurtág, Susan Parenti and Alfred Zimmerlin.
This
installation/concert was made possible, in part, by the Swiss cultural
foundation Pro Helvetia.
